Art Up Close

Some things look even better up close! This may be one of them. It's a close up of my Artists Urn Vessel. Posted to my etsy site today. These large vessels are sold as art pieces but can easily be used to stow the ashes of deceased loved ones or pets. I sold one this week for just that purpose. It gives me an honor you wouldn't believe to know that someone is going to use a vessel my husband and I created for this type of purpose.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to peruse the contents of the recent work I have on my etsy site. It's my 'storefront' for you.
If you see something intriguing, something that causes you to pause, perhaps it is that piece calling your name. Buy it!
I give you permission to do so!!
This is the way the best collectables are acquired! A collection begins with a desire to exhibit passion. It takes passion to open the mind and heart to buy art. To buy something not mass produced - but handmade and executed with the years of dedication, experience and fine tuning it takes to become a fine artist or craftswoman.

It takes love to make it. It takes love to buy it.

It takes the willingness to be aware of these most sensitive characteristics within ourselves to be open to the possibilities.
Life and art are one in the same-letting ourselves be open to the possibilities.
When passion becomes awakened in an individual, they have caught the 'bug' -- the 'high' if you will, of collecting art.
When someone finds something that tugs at their soul---such is the way with buying art.

My job is to create.
Your job is to 'see'.

Together I support your need to have art-
and you help support my life.
I give up something of value to me, my art-
and in turn you give up something of value to in exchange- your money.

This is one of the most primordial of transactions that continues, despite the madness of the world.
It ignites the fire, which for an artist, burns relentlessly.
For the collector-is all consuming.

You, the collector, is no different than me.
Our passion is ART. In this we become one.

Art brings people together much like music.
It lets us breathe and become the symphony of our soul.
It helps us heal.
It keeps us finding the good in every moment-despite life's realities.
It helps us become the best human beings we can be.
It lets us be us.
There is nothing more I need in this world than to be an artist and to be loved.

Buy art-find you passion!!

(¸.*´ (¸.*`¤~ This is my Inspired Creativity Box ! This up-cycled cigar box measures 7 1/4" wide and 7 1/4" deep and 5 1/2" high ( 18.77 cm x 18.77 cm x 13.59 cm ). A great box with purple and gold feet with purple trim. The top opens by way of a hinged lid. Inside the lid it's stamped DREAM with another stamp of a woman feeling very creative! On the bottom it's lined with sultry black velvet. I love it enough to keep it myself....but away to a collector it must reside! I hope for the lucky owner---it inspires creativity!

Just posted this box on my etsy site:

༺ ••Cats Art and Friends •• ༻

Yesterday we exhibited at Penrod, the one day blow out art fair in Indianapolis. It had been 16 years since we'd done this show. Incredulous weather had folks glowing and it did our soul good to be with artist friends. Lots of Obama shirts and buttons and buzz among the artists and patrons. A high five to all who wore their Obama gear in the conservative Indy. Lots of great shared stories of McCaint and Carabou Barbie!
Artists share the common, undying thread of hope.
It's what keeps us making art in such tough times and always hoping things will get better.
Obama = Hope!

This show draws well heeled patrons who pay $15.00 per person at the gate. It's a social event. Beer flowing, symphony, ballet, all the society perks alive on the Lilly Estate which is home to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Sales were not record setting, but we have several strong leads we can follow up on and reminded folks we'd be at the Carmel show the end of the month. What did us good was being around our friends. They are our touchstone in these diffictult times. There is no explanation needed. We all know what one another is going through. The quiet victories and the joy of each sale, no matter how small. We know how each can cover a bill or give us peace of mind. As I have said, the comraderie is like nothing else. We have all seen each other at our worst and our best!

Our tiger family was happy to see us come home on a Saturday night. We told them we'd be quick! We got in around
11:30 pm after a really long, slow take down. Milo, our yellow kitty was very happy his bed (our luggage) had returned. He loves crashing onto it and caves it in. This is his bed when we're home. That's him above.

Work continues as we prepare for Atlanta. A visit to Zoo Atlanta will be our reward after the show.
For those that came out and supported the artists and spoke with us, thank you! We appreaciated it greatly!!!
All in all, a great weekend!

༺• Womens Art Box •༻

Hi All,
Todays entry, be it a bit late, is the last in my "week of boxes" series. It was fun to focus on one theme and let my boxes speak for me. This is what art does!
It speaks.
I believe that art finds its rightful owner and the right owner finds the right art!
Some of my boxes 'spoke to you', and you answered! For that I send my sincere thanks!

A dear friend of mine, Geri, was talking to me about this body of work the other night and she said this:
"I just know, and knew, in my heart that Tattoo Dreams are artistically and personally addictive. I think in part because at the moment you see a piece the words and images conjure up the personal and then the piece is yours, weather you buy it or not, it is yours. Buying the piece of course makes so much sense since then that feeling, or another after you get it home and begin looking at it every day, those feelings are invoked in your own space." Thanks Geri!

(¸.*´ (¸.*`¤~ Here is my Womens Art Box! This upcycled cigar box measures 4 1/2" wide and 5 3/4" deep and 5" tall. A great box with magenta feet and purple trim. Emblazoned with images that represent various creative disciplines. On the top is the quote from St. Francis of Assisi. I've always loved this quote and have it on my studio wall.

The woman who
works with
her hands only

The woman who
works with her

is a craftswoman.

The woman who

★ Spirit of '76 Farm ★

´¨)
¸,•´¸.•´¨) ¸.•*¨)
{¸.*´ (¸.*` ⁂≈༺Good friends, good food and laughter! Jon and I are blessed with a variety of friends! After having a truely wonderful weekend at Boston MIlls ArtFest we delivered a piece to a customer in Ohio. Her purchase was made in Arizona in spring and the placement and home it now enjoys makes my heart smile.

After this delivery we took a slow drive out to Oak Harbor Ohio to spend time with friends Barbara and Allan. A painter and photographer who have given love and color to an old farmhouse. This colorful hideaway is their summer home while doing shows and provides ample respite to create and renew. The name 'Spirit of '76' comes from the house number and previous owners who named the property and the name seems fitting. Inside the colors are fun and the bright walls are graced with Allans photos, Barbara's paintings and fellow artists work. We were among friends in every way!
Barbara and Allan greeted us and took us on tour of their well manicured country gardens. They were beautiful and reminded me of the paintings Barbara use to paint. Their shared studio is an old white barn on the porperty with wide open spaces and room to create and spread out. I think of them a lot like I see Jon and I. The simple joy of being together at work and play. This barn yields the talents of this creative pair as they too take their work to shows across the country.

http://www.bodyscapes.com

After the outdoor tour we were treated to the most amazing gluten free vegetarian meal anyone could hope for! Barbara is not only a talented painter and gardener, but a gifted cook. We had 3 appetizers and a 4 part main course complete with edible flowers. Her spinach roulade was a thing of beauty and she gladly shared recipes with me before we left! Wow! Every dish and every taste was carefully crafted and all tasted amazing! To take on the diverse food issues of guests being vegetarian, gluten free and diabetic and to make this all so special was an honor and a gift. We give it 5 forks!!!

There is a passion to gardening, to art and to preparing a beautiful feast. All were done so well and intertwined with conversation and laughter reflective of friends who have known one another a long time and still have much to learn.

Life would be empty without our dear friends. To have them adds color and texture to our world!

Looking Forward....

Yesterday I learned my TattooDreams work was juried into the online portal TrunkT. I have also joined Indiepublic to encourage sales of this alternate body of work. It takes a multi- faceted money stream to survive as an artist these days.
The end of the Bush era will sound a bell to passion resumed and (hopefully) a needless mess of a war and occupation of Iraq ended.
One can only hope at this point.
I have the countdown clock on my blog for good reason.
I want to have my country and livlihood back!!
I beleive this will happen when this resident president leaves office.

Out to the studio to make art!

Shaman Spirits TattooDream Box

This box is 7" square and 7 1/4 deep and 5 1/4" high. Trimmed in handpainted desert teal with matching feet and two tone teal fringe. Reminiscent of the spirtual desert and cliff dwellers' petroglyphs that still exist in tucked away places. Some of the first most primal art that gave modern man a glimpse into the life of these early people.
A great surdy box to entrust memories and photos of trips and artifacts be they real or of our own making. Inside the box it's lined on the bottom with lucious black velvet. A great box to enjoy as an art or conversation piece.

If this box tugs at your soul, go to my etsy site (link on the right side of this page) and buy it!!

❤ Valentines Day ❤

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
There was a time when Valentines Day was about bringing my Moms decorated cupcakes to class
and having made small post boxes placed on our desks for our Valentines.
Then there was the time it meant hoping a boyfriend would remember and buy you a flower from
the fundraisers in high school.
Then there was the most wonderful Valentine of all.
The guy I was dating in art school made a Valentine for me and brought it with flowers to my apartment.
I was in love!!!
Real love.
This man and a I now share our life together and have for 25 years!
I wake up beside him and know he'll always be there.
That's the best gift I could hope for!

This is my favorite holiday of the year.
It arrives in the midst of dark cold February and brings flowers and love
and hugs to the focus!
Does it get any better than this?

♥♥♥LOVE IS IN THE AIR♥♥♥

There's just something about this time of year that makes me love the lead up to Valentimes Day. I try to forget the
overly commercial aspect and focus on the bright colors and lively nature of this holiday of love. It's actually one of my favorite holidays! Has been since I was little. I love pink and red together, love the flowers and hearts and that it's about love. Love of your mate, friends, pets............LOVE!
Does it get any better than that?
So, here is one of TattooDream boxes with charming red feet. It's full of love and good thoughts.......if you find you really need this box to become yours or a gift, feel free to visit my etsy site (link is off on the right side of my entry). It is there you will find other TattooDream collectibles!

Have a most awesome day!! A frozen day here. I'm off to make soup and head to the studio!

♥ Purple Hill ♥

♥ Foggy and grey here today. Will take to the studio to continue work on the new boxes that arrived. Jon will work on photgraphing them this evening so I can have new images up tonight. He's really good at capturing these pieces. There's something about this work, my love of pattern and the crispness of black on wood that keeps me engaged. It's funny, since my art has always been all about color. Anyone who knows me will tell you that. I live in a purple house, have purple glasses and almost every wall inside my home is a different color......now this void of color soothes me. It's odd and interesting to me and I continue to let it take me where it will.

After a wonderful breakfast of heart shaped waffles and a peppermint mocha from my loving husband/barista/photographer........I'm fueled for another productive day of making art!

I leave you today with an image of our home, Purple Hill. ♥

Tuesday

♥´¨)
¸,•´¸.•´¨) ¸.•*¨)
{¸.*´ (¸.*`¤~Still learning my way around how to edit and move things here on my blog.
Sold another piece on etsy. Such wonderful customers who appreciate the
work I've made. While not being at art festivals, interacting with those buying my
work first hand, this is a great alternative. It allows me to create a body
of work that will probably not be seen at shows with me. A good place for experimentation........
maybe someday all this will let me find a path to the journey of painting......

One never knows where the path of creativity will take them. It has no roadmaps or
directions, and must be journeyed with intuition as your compass. Getting lost
along the way, hitting roadblocks and detours is all part of finding ones destination......
if there really is such a thing to be found!

Sharing with you on this rainy Bloomington day another piece of my TattooDreams
work. This box recently sold to some dear friends in lovely New Mexico,
the Land of Enchantment. Thank you for your support and love!
Sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy.

•Crushing Silence•

•Crushing Silence•

All I live for is now
All I stand for is where and how
All I wish for are magic moments

As I sail through change
My resolve remains the same
What I chose are magic moments

Because ships are safe in the harbour
But that is not what ships are made for
The mind could stretch much further
But it seems that is not what our minds are trained for

We call for random order
You can't control Mother nature's daughter

Ships are safe in the harbour
But that is not what ships are built for

The witch hunter roams
The scary thing is that he's not alone
He's trying to down my magic moments

As we sail through change
Ride the wind of a silent rage
And sing laments of magic moments
